Multnomah County Criminal Justice Response to Domestic Violence

Status: complete

The purpose of this study was to assist the Local Public Safety Coordinating Council Domestic Violence Working Group in evaluating the criminal justice system response to Bureau of Emergency Communications (911) calls, to identify repeat offenders and households at high risk for repeated domestic violence, and to make recommendations on prioritization of cases and increasing the effectiveness of the response. For the month of March 1999, NPC examined the 911 calls for service from BOEC, the police response to these calls through incident reports from the Portland Police Bureau, Gresham Police Department and Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, and the outcome of arrests made by police through the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office and Multnomah County Parole and Probation.
